Applications are invited for the post of Picture Gallery Audio Description Internship in the Library Services Department.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Royal Holloway student to work with the Art Collections. Our team are currently creating new interpretation for all the paintings in the College’s Picture Gallery which will be available to the public via the app Smartify. We want to make our interpretation available to all visitors and as part of this we want to provide audio descriptions for all of the works in the gallery. Supervised by the College Curator the successful candidate will record and edit audio descriptions to be used on Smartify. 

The project aims to ask a wide variety of people across the College Community to provide audio descriptions for each painting. In preparation for helping these volunteers to create their audio description the intern will be given training and guidance from Professor Hannah Thompson, one of the leading experts in audio description for visitors with visual impairments. The intern will then need to record the volunteers’ audio descriptions and edit them ready to be uploaded. The intern will also need liaise with a variety of members of the College community to find the volunteers and this will include some internal marketing and social media work.

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
