Full-Time, Fixed-Term for 12 months.

Applications are invited for the post of External Communications Officer in the Marketing and Communications Department.

Royal Holloway, University of London is looking for a creative, digitally savvy communicator to help tell the stories that build our reputation, across both media and social.

This is a genuinely blended external comms role. You'll spot and land media coverage that raises our profile locally, nationally and internationally, and you'll work closely with Social Media colleagues to drive reputation-building storytelling across our channels, particularly LinkedIn: positioning the University as authoritative, relevant and impactful with professional and sector audiences. You’ll also help surface the research, partnerships and impact that matter most. As this area of our work grows, it's a real opportunity to help shape how we do it.

Day to day you'll:

  • Identify and deliver proactive media and PR activity across owned and earned channels, and handle reactive media enquiries with confidence
  • Shape and produce reputation-building content for social, web and print, with a strong focus on growing our presence on LinkedIn
  • Build relationships with journalists, academics and colleagues across the University, surfacing the research, partnerships and impact worth amplifying
  • Monitor and evaluate how our coverage and content is performing, using what you learn to sharpen what we do next
  • Support the University's response to issues and crises, helping protect our reputation when it matters most

We're looking for someone who's both creative and analytical. You'll be as comfortable pitching a story to a national journalist as you are reading what the data tells you about how it landed. You'll bring sharp editorial judgement, an eye for a strong story, and the digital instincts to know where and how it will perform, then the curiosity to measure it and do it better.

If you want a role with breadth, the chance to develop a growing area of our work, and a team that cares about doing comms well, we'd love to hear from you.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Training and Development opportunities
  • Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
  • Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
  • Free parking

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the University is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
