Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Earth System Modelling. The post holder will join the UKRI-supported ERC Consolidator project ‘Disentangling the role of organic feedbacks on the global carbon cycle,’ led by Dr Alex Dickson, which aims to use inorganic isotope geochemistry to trace Earth’s ancient organic carbon cycle. The successful applicant will lead on parameterising metal geochemical cycles into a suite of Earth-System models and on configuring experiments to simulate organic carbon burial and oxidation across the last billion years of Earth’s history. The work will involve collaboration with project partners in Birmingham, California and Leeds.
The postholder will join the multi-disciplinary DISTILL project team, which includes other PDRAs and PhD students, as well as undergraduate and masters-level project students. They will have the opportunity to join one of the department’s new research centres, where they will be supported and encouraged to develop their own ideas for independent research. They will have the chance to attend international conferences and to spend time with project partners.
You should have previous experience in Earth System modelling and coding and will have applied these skills to understand environmental change. A knowledge of the global carbon cycle, mechanisms controlling past environmental change, and stable and radiogenic isotope tracers will also be beneficial for the role.
