Applications are invited for the post of StoryFutures Data Technician in the Media Arts Department.

This post will be a key role delivering StoryTrails, an exciting new immersive storytelling experience as part of Unboxed: Creativity in the UK. This is a high-profile project creatively led by David Olusoga. It will make use of archive to explore our past, present and future, and will be a project of national prominence with events taking place in 15 different towns and cities across the UK.

As a Data Technician, you will be the key link in managing data across an exciting array of Virtual, Augmented, and large screen immersive experiences. You will support, train and enable others in the team – including 50 diverse emerging creatives – to work with an iterative production cycle that includes working with BBC and BFI archive, the latest in lidar scanning technology and cutting-edge location systems.   

What you need: A strong understanding of data management in creative media production, preferably on interactive or immersive productions, great attention to detail and organizational skills, strong technical abilities in codecs, file management systems, and audio/video production software. The project will predominantly use Frame.IO, Adobe Suite, Dropbox, Scaniverse and SketchFab for production workflows to different media outputs. Keeping track of equipment, data files and a range of partner needs, you will need excellent communication skills and be able to juggle multiple demands and stakeholders. 

Our partners include some of the UK’s leading media names including: BFI, BBC, Nexus Studios, ISO Design, Produce UK, Uplands TV, The Reading Agency as well as Niantic, the makers of Pokémon Go. You will work especially closely with Nexus Studios.

Where the role sits: The role sits at Royal Holloway as part of an interdisciplinary StoryFutures Catalyst. The post will work with a team working nationally with some requirement to travel. Remote working can be accommodated with occasional requirement to attend in person at our base in Egham, Surrey.

About  Unboxed 2022: 

Led by Chief Creative Officer, Martin Green CBE, Unboxed 2022 will deliver a programme of ground-breaking new commissions with the ambition of reaching millions; bringing people together and promoting the UK’s creativity to the world.  

It will take place across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and there are ten creative projects forming the Unboxed’ commissioned programme. Our StoryFutures led project is one of these.

Festival 2022 Ltd, has been established in Birmingham to curate, manage and promote Unboxed2022 working with strategic delivery bodies within each nation to devise, deliver and commission the programme. The Festival will demonstrate the important role that creativity plays in our lives, as well as providing unforgettable experiences. This investment comes at a time of need for sectors impacted by the global pandemic and will support the creation of work and jobs.
