We are seeking to appoint an efficient and motivated individual to the role of Senior Information Assistant, Metadata and Discovery.  

Reporting to the Metadata and Discovery Coordinator, the Senior Information Assistant, Metadata and Discovery will work closely with staff across the Library to improve the discovery of and access to the Library’s digital and print collections through a variety of activities in metadata creation, enhancement and management.  Specifically the post holder will have responsibility for:

  • Creating and enhancing metadata for a wide range of resources
  • Carrying out appropriate spot checking of catalogue records for new acquisitions
  • Carrying out appropriate review of metadata in the Reading List system, Talis Aspire
  • Undertaking Project Work related to metadata and the improvement of discovery of library resources

As part of the role you will be expected to develop expertise in the Library Management System, Alma, and in Talis Aspire, the reading list system.

You will have relevant experience of working in a library or information service, preferably in a metadata-based role.  You will have a good understanding and practical experience of MARC, AACR2, and RDA, and of classification principles.  A confident user of IT, you will be able to work with speed and accuracy whilst adhering to professional standards.  With excellent communications skills, you can make a positive contribution to a team, and have a positive commitment to excellent customer service.  You can manage your workload to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities, trends and developments.

This is a full-time, permanent post of 35 hours a week, to be worked Monday-Friday.
