Applications are invited for the post of Head of Department – Social Work
Royal Holloway is at an exciting phase in its development, with the implementation of a new school structure from 1 August 2019. Designed to enhance the student experience, achieve greater consistency and build a more effective structure for strategic decision-making the change will create new and innovative academic synergies. This will help make the College stronger and provide greater flexibility to respond and adapt to new ideas.
As Head of Department the post holder will provide academic leadership and management to ensure successful delivery of excellence in research, teaching and learning, student experience and outcomes. As a member of the School Executive the post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to set the academic direction and goals for the School.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate excellent leadership and line management, planning and organisational, budgeting and resource management skills. Demonstration of a successful academic track record demonstrated by promotion to Senior Lecturer or equivalent i experience is required for this post together with experience of leadership, planning and organisation of activities within an academic or similar context. The latter may be demonstrated through management of a major research grant, leadership of a teaching initiative or a role within the College or professional body. Proven experience in successfully managing conflict and resolution of difficult situations is required for this post.
In return the post holder will receive an annual allowance of £6,000 per annum in addition to normal salary. The post is based on the main campus in Egham.
