Applications are invited for the post of Head of Web and Mobile Applications within the IT Services Department.

The IT Services Department is committed to the continual improvement of the technologies and services which underpin just about every aspect of College life. We are committed to ensuring that technology is working hard to support innovative and agenda-setting research, to deliver unparalleled learning experiences to students and support seamless and efficient College operations. To do this effectively IT Services is seeking committed and engaging staff that can work in partnership with the academic and professional departments to understand their needs and deliver technology solutions.  This is an exciting time at Royal Holloway as we begin the delivery of a 3-year strategic digital programme in response to the global impact of COVID-19.

Working within the IT Enterprise Applications team, the post Head of Web and Mobile Applications is responsible for defining and executing the Web and Mobile application portfolio as well as providing software development and support services to meet the demands of the business. In addition, the post is responsible for the set of middleware and integration services fundamental to the operation of services at the College.

The Head will also develop the portfolio strategy and assess the capability of current systems and emerging technology. The Head will be responsible for developing and leading a skilled web and development team, support them as their line manager in their day to day operational work and throughout their career development. In addition, the Head will work with key external partners on a range of applications, web technologies, integrations and middleware platforms. The Head will ensure that the resources available to them are effectively managed and planned, providing technical leadership to support business as usual activities and projects.  

The successful candidate will have experience in web design and development technologies and will have a proven track record in providing support and advice to the business and leading a team delivering using agile methodologies.  The College has recently invested heavily in the Microsft365 range of services and has started to use that to introduce stronger collaboration and productivity to the workplace, the role holder will be required to lead further developments in this and future evergreen toolsets.

They will have a clear understanding of the HE environment and will have the vision for how services will drive positive student experiences, foster greater collaboration and better support learning, teaching and research at Royal Holloway.  The successful candidate will have strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
