Full Time, Fixed-Term for 15 months
Applications are invited for a 15-month, full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London.
This position is funded by an ESRC research grant awarded to Professor Kathy Rastle in collaboration with Professor Marc Brysbaert (Ghent University, Belgium) and Professor Marco Marelli (University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy). The project asks what children and adolescents learn through reading experience and involves a combination of corpus analyses and behavioural experiments. The postholder will be working closely with another postdoctoral researcher on the project (Maria Korochkina) who has designed a new corpus of children’s and young people’s books. This post will lead on designing behavioural experiments with children and adolescents based on insights from that corpus.
Applicants should hold a PhD in psychology or a closely related discipline. They must have outstanding quantitative skills, including experience in efficient handling and analysis of large datasets. Experience in designing and programming of psychological experiments is essential and experience conducting research with children in schools would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about using open science tools to improve the rigour and impact of the project. The post requires an enhanced DBS check.
We offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including generous annual leave and training and development opportunities. The successful applicant will work in Professor Rastle’s lab in Egham, Surrey, where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
The planned start date is 4 March 2024 but could be earlier for the right candidate. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Kathy Rastle on Kathy.Rastle@rhul.ac.uk
For queries on the application process the Human Resources Department can be contacted by email at: recruitment@rhul.ac.uk
