Full-Time. Permanent

Applications are invited for the post of Anglican Chaplain (an ordained Church of England Priest) working within the Directorate of Student Life (Wellbeing & Experience).

This is a permanent post available from January 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

This full-time position provides an exciting opportunity to play an important role in the delivery of Royal Holloway’s wellbeing and experience offering. The Directorate of Student Life includes a broad range of teams who are core to the student journey:

  • Active Lifestyle & Sport
  • Conduct
  • Counselling & Mental Health
  • Disability & Neurodiversity
  • Hall Life
  • International & Money Advice
  • Multifaith Chaplaincy
  • Wellbeing Support including Community Wellbeing

As Anglican Chaplain you will work supportively and collaboratively with the wider Multifaith Chaplaincy team to provide pastoral support, lead and arrange worship and enable religious observance on campus, deliver proactive outreach work to engage visibly with campus and student life and participate with local clergy colleagues in the Runnymede Deanery to support the work of the Diocese of Guildford.  You will be expected to develop and maintain links with other faith groups, supporting the university’s commitment to enable observance of all mainstream faiths.

The Chaplains endeavour to help every student and staff member find their place in the life of Royal Holloway, and they play a key role in building and fostering inclusive and supportive communities on campus.  Our student and staff communities are richly diverse, and we are seeking someone who can demonstrate experience of working with underrepresented groups and an understanding of how to continue to develop our welcoming and accessible chaplaincy provision.

Within the Directorate of Student Life, we are committed to an ethos of continual service improvement, to responding effectively to feedback from students and staff, and to meeting student need whenever possible. The role holder will help us continue to develop opportunities for wider faith representation within the Chaplaincy team in the context of a growing and increasingly diverse student body.

The postholder is expected to work a flexible 35-hour week during which they will need to be available to support the Chapel service pattern, including Sunday services. A house in Englefield Green is provided by the Diocese of Guildford.

Royal Holloway has a beautiful and historic Chapel with a non-denominational foundation and a strong choral tradition. Regular services include weekly Choral Evensong, Holy Communion, Catholic Mass, and ecumenical morning and evening prayer. Housed in one of the most spectacular university buildings in the world, and completed in 1886, the beautiful, gilded Chapel includes bas-reliefs by Ceccardo Fucigna and a fine three-manual organ.
