Applicants are welcomed for a six-month full-time position based at Royal Holloway University of London (Egham, Surrey), investigating the effects of externally-attached biologgers on birds. Experiments will involve trialing various attachment approaches on captive homing pigeons, regular weighing of the birds, and determining their metabolic rates non-invasively via respirometry. Full training will be provided in all techniques required for the project. This position would suit a recent biology graduate who is enthusiastic and passionate about gaining more experience in experimental biology and working with animals. This position will also involve looking after the birds (approximately 50 pigeons), including twice-weekly clean outs of the pigeon lofts, and regular feeding. The role involves working closely with PhD, MSc and BSc students, and good communication and organizational skills are a must.

Ideally, the candidate will have some experience of keeping and handling animals, and undertaken a practical project as part of the undergraduate or postgraduate studies. The deadline for applications is 5pm on December 17th. Interviews will be held at Royal Holloway (Egham, Surrey) on the 8thJanuary 2018. This position is only available to UK or EU applicants. Applicants need a minimum of a 2.1 degree in biology (ecology, zoology, behavior). Due to the nature of the work, this role would not be suitable for people with animal allergies.

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
