Applications are invited for the post of Archivist & Special Collections Curator in the Library, Learning Support and Culture division (LLSC) of the Student and Academic Services Directorate. This is an exciting and central role within the Cultural Services team of the division. The post-holder will be based predominantly in the iconic Emily Wilding Davison Building (opened in 2017) at the heart of campus, which is home to our state-of-the-art library and archive. The core of our archival holdings are the institutional records of Bedford and Royal Holloway Colleges. These nationally important collections include some of the earliest records relating to the history of higher education for women. Our special collections are especially strong in theatre history, and also include the personal papers of several prominent individuals. Our rare book holdings cover a broad range of disciplines, including Classics, English literature, British history, religion, science and philosophy, with our oldest titles dating from the early sixteenth century.

You will join Royal Holloway at a particularly exciting time as we embark on the development and implementation of a new University strategy, and embed a programme of transformational change across the institution. In this context, you will have a strong vision of how archives and special collections can contribute to the mission of higher education. A collaborative approach is also essential to delivering innovation and continuously improving the student, staff and researcher experience.

Reporting to a newly created post of Head of Cultural Services, you will be an experienced archivist capable of developing, managing and preserving nationally significant heritage collections. You will be able to deliver high-quality physical and digital services to a diverse range of users, including through collections-based teaching. You will be an effective communicator and networker able to build and maintain relationships across the College at all levels, as well as with a wide range of external partners. Early priorities in the role will include developing strategically aligned skills development opportunities for our students, and preparing digital preservation policies and plans.
